Been following your threads for a while now and thought I would finally join in. Anyone know anybody that has had had some kiting sessions on Lake Norman? I've looked at trying out Ramsey Creek but haven't made it down yet to check out the location.

Any advice would be helpful. I live about an hour above the Lake in Wilkesboro. Was hoping to get some sessions in at the Lake :) I've heard that Nov - April are the best times for wind on Norman.

I spend alot of time in Hatteras but would love the ocasional fix close to home..
Thanks for your suggestions!

Glade to hear everyone got wind sunday. I got a wild hair and decided I was going to hit Topsail. It was a solo mission. Wrightsville got skunked on Saturday until just before dark but the cam in TI was reading 20 all afternoon Saturday. So on Sunday morning the winds at WB seemed flukie and I thought corncake would be flat so why not venture up to Topsail. As everyone else reported the winds were steady. It was blowing easy 18 mph when I got there and by 2 the winds had picked up to the mid 20's. Interestingly the winds started SSE and switched to SSW. It was hard side on and not quite enough side shore to go down the line. I rode 5.5 flat and 82L. I think the winds were more SW and WSW down south. But topsail still had some ground swell mixed in with the wind swell. Very weak mushie thigh to waist high peaks. Most were backside rides due to wind direction. Single front side hits to the lip could be made by making a hard bottom turn straight down wind and sheeting out in expectation of getting back winded. Topsail has a sandbar that runs just off the beach with a little deeper water just inside before hitting the beach. The small waves that were breaking were breaking far enough out to not have to worry about hitting bottom. The current was ripping on the inside though. I got denied once which was cracking me up. Getting worked by knee high mush. There were some nice ramps on the outside but again wind direction was not the best. Made for good first attempts at stalled forwards.

I'll definately hit TI again but maybe on a hard SW or WSW day. In hindsight I probably should have driven to the north end of TI. It may have been more sideshore there with that wind direction.

Sucks, I'm stuck here this weekend while my gear sits down at S.I...

Inland low-pressure trough and off-shore high has been pumping up the seabreeze last few days. I'm sick looking at the beach cams.

There was actually enough breeze to sail at Ramsey Creek earlier today but I left my big rig down at the beach last weekend. Who would have thought there would be wind on LKN on a Saturday in July?

Big thunderstorm blew it out late but it looked good (i.e. actual whitecaps!) at Ramsey Creek for a few hours earlier.

To top it off, discovered some low-life stole the battery out of my boat so I couldn't use that. Not easy to get to either and they obviously went to a lot of trouble to take it.

Jesus...who in the hell steals an old marine battery?

It's been a bust today.
