It was a good day. I am so out of shape.

RE: Windsday?

Nice shots! Glad you guys caught it good down there. Looks like Scott was finally able to use that new board. The seal has been broken!

RE: Windsday?

Yeah, he broke the seal alright. I don't think he's very impressed with it though. He says the tail is too thin and the nose has too much volume.

We messed around a while on the beach waiting for the wind to come back up to 4.5 sailing. That wasted about an hour of what would've been hard 5.5 ish sailing in nice waves. That said, the wind did come back up and we sailed hard for at least an hour and a half on top of the hour or so we already sailed. Really good workout. I hope we can keep the ball rolling now.

RE: Windsday?

The 82 felt smaller than the posted volume. Maybe I need to tune the mast foot position. I caught a brief movie of my morning session over powered on a 5.5 at wrightsville before my camera mount broke. On the movie it looks like the board is plowing through the water.

It was perfect sideshore 5.1 wind with head high sets rolling in with clean long lines to ride at day break. But it quickly deteriorated as the winds cranked up to 40 with gusts to 60. I spent the rest of the day rigging sails and changing fins and never got dialed in. But the board feels great on the forwards. Other than that I wish I had the 92l allwave. The 5.5 feels horrible on the 82l and that is the sail I ride most here. The tail is narrow with most of the volume up front. Which is all great when you are actually surfing a wave and when you want to rebound off some mush burger. But then you have to jibe and slog out and then life starts to suck. This board is a sinker. I'm a heavy 168, maybe 170 or so with a wetsuitTongue. But I am out of practice and shape with the wind drought we've had. And this is the new shorter "wider" shape. Maybe I need to give it time and tune the mast foot and my style more. But I think for down here, dropping below 85l was a mistake for most of the conditions we get. The 92L I think could have been my one board quiver.

Great camera angle!

Give that board some more chances. When the wind returns, and you get more time on it with a smaller sail, it might grow on you.

Looks like you might get lucky tomorrow. Wish I lived down there for these marginal forecasts.

RE: Windsday?

I think you'll have to give the board another chance. The tone of the day may have been set with the crazy wind, thus tough to look at it objectively. It did look like the board did "sit" in the water. I'd have to watch some other videos of boards and see how it compares. Did it feel like the nose was riding high? If so, may want to push the mast foot up 1/2" and see if that levels the board out, especially with the 5.5. Did you have the same feeling of plowing on the 4.5?

When we have some time, I'll come over with my 85L and we'll put the straight edge on the boards and then take some measurements for comparison. Funny, but even though I think my Exo 85 planes up pretty quick, I'd still like for a tad more width in the mid section (it's listed as 56cm).

RE: Windsday?

I "stole" that mount from Andy. I love it. I just ordered a new strap to replace the one I broke. Andy sent me some great advice for these new shapes. I'm definitely going to follow it.

RE: Windsday?

Alan/Brian, I think you're right. I think the morning Gale set the stage for the rest of the day. This fist true session on the allwave was not ideal.

Advice:
Move the fin back (I had it all the way forward in the box).
Use a larger, stiffer fin which I did switch to late in the day and it helped.
But the main piece of advice that I really need to follow up on is using longer harness lines. Yo I've got T-rex arms. Funny the things you get comfortable with and never give a second thought. (http://vimeo.com/5554953)

PS - cold this morning. Not enough wind or swell to justify the temps.
