Charleston area question

Dave C, Alan, or whoever knows....

I'm going to Charleston for weekend away with my better half. Looks like nice comfortable sunny days and she's up for a couple of hours at the beach with a book while I hit the water. Doesn't look like much wind, probably 5-15 out of northwest...perfect for either SUP paddle surfing or SUP windsurf.

Does Sullivans Island work on a NW wind? Wouldn't that be side-off? And what tides work best there?

Otherwise, where else should we go for SUP paddle surf/windsurf?

RE: Charleston area question

Sullivan's Island is downright scary on a NW wind, especially with an outgoing tide. I've sailed off Isle of Palms on a West wind switching to NW and had a pretty good time. At least there you don't have to worry so much about a rip tide. For windsurfing a NW wind down there some of the guys have been going to the south end of Folly Beach. I've not sailed there, but they say it's fun.

The best time I've ever had on NW wind down there was on an incoming tide between Ft. Moultrie and Ft.Sumter. You launch beside Ft. Moultrie. Give yourself plenty of leeway between the change of tide in case of breakdown, and try to sail with a buddy.
